“This is a great opportunity to learn about film making, and could be a place to start a life’s career,” said Regional Arts Development Officer Derek Motion.

“We are looking for people aged 14-24 to participate in these workshops. And it’s free.”

“Excellent! Awesome opportunity you couldn’t miss. I learnt so much and had so much fun at the same time! I never thought I get would get this opportunity, so I appreciate it so dang much!” said student Roma.

Don’t just go and see a film on the weekend, make one! The workshops last two days and they are followed by a public screening.

Their web site http://www.inthebin.net.au/ has good examples of what is possible.

In the Bin will be in Griffith on 23rd-25th October 2011.

Online Window on the Arts

The website of the newly formed Western Riverina Arts Board is now online.

“The website is fully operational and the local arts community can now use it as a ‘one-stop shop’ for information on the area’s arts,” said Regional Arts Development Officer Derek Motion.

The site can be found at http://www.westrivarts.com.au

“It has news of events, funding when available, and profiles of local artists,” said Mr Motion.

"Hopefully it will become the first place artists in the Western Riverina go when they need information.”

“Local artists can register their details and examples of their work. Or they can subscribe to the bi-monthly ebulletin that has outlines available funding, tips on grant writing, opportunities and competitions, as well as examples of really cool art from all over the world.”

“The website will also have extra information on the Western Riverina Cultural Trail when it is launched early next year."

Derek Motion wants people to get into the site, ‘boots and all’ and see if there are problems or errors to fix.

The site is also linked to the Western Riverina Arts Facebook page, and their Twitter address @westrivarts, both of which also advertise local art stories and news.

Locals asked to register ex-local or family talent

Western Riverina Arts Board (WRAB) is talent seeking. The board is looking for local and ex- local talent to list in its registry of creative industries.

They are asking residents of Leeton, Narrandera and Griffith Shires to encourage talented family members and others who have been past residents of the region to register with the Board.

The Board’s intent is to increase the likelihood that when local projects arise, organisers are able to access people working in creative industries with links to the region.

WRAB chair Mrs Julie Briggs said the aim is also to provide role models for young and developing artists, through contact with and awareness of others from the region who have developed successful careers in the arts.

“We also believe that the knowledge of the region held by ex-resident artists will enrich any projects they undertake with local artists or communities.

“We need locals to register their talented family and friends with our Arts Development Officer Derek Motion or feed the details straight into the directory on the WRA website www.westrivarts.com.au", said Mrs Briggs.
